DION KLINER - sculpture

Dion grew up in Los Angeles, California and was educated at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and East Texas State University. He spent the past eighteen years being joyously influenced by the rocks, clouds and tree stumps found in the bases of historical sculpture. Initially working from sculptures he'd seen at the Metropolitan and Brooklyn Museums of Art in New York where he lived, his influences expanded after moving with his family to Vancouver in 2003. In 2008 Kliner began to include the direct observation of nature in combination with historical sculpture into his work. Using the technique of wax over plaster for the majority of his work, a combination of materials most often associated with Medardo Rosso, Kliner's sculpture addresses art history, beauty and incalculable loss. Kliner's work is included in public and private collections in Canada and the United States.
